Il Dipartimento di Ingegneria Industriale (DIEF) dell’Università di Firenze, nuovo coordinatore del progetto Pharaon

L’Università di Firenze (UNIFI), fondata nel 1321, con circa 51.000 studenti, 1.800 docenti e ricercatori, 1.600 personale tecnico e amministrativo e 1.600 dottorandi e assegnisti di ricerca è una delle più grandi organizzazioni per la ricerca e l’istruzione superiore in Italia. I ricercatori dell’Università di Firenze operano all’interno di 21 dipartimenti e possono beneficiare di circa 40 strutture di ricerca, tra cui centri interdipartimentali e interuniversitari, nonché centri specializzati per il trasferimento delle conoscenze e la formazione avanzata. Una parte significativa del budget annuale è destinata alla ricerca scientifica.
Recentemente, UNIFI si è classificata tra le prime università italiane per la distribuzione dei fondi di ricerca nazionali, ed è tra le più attive in termini di progetti europei e relative sovvenzioni. Nel settimo programma quadro, l’UE ha finanziato circa 140 progetti per un totale di oltre 40 milioni di euro. A dicembre 2019, l’Università di Firenze ha oltre 70 progetti Horizon 2020 in corso e più di 90 altri progetti UE nel campo dell’istruzione, della cooperazione e delle iniziative congiunte. L’Università partecipa anche a diversi programmi di ricerca sponsorizzati da agenzie internazionali, associazioni, fondazioni e altri donatori.
All’interno del progetto Pharaon, l’Università di Firenze è coinvolta attraverso il Dipartimento di Ingegneria Industriale (DIEF). Dal 1 dicembre 2020 il DIEF è il coordinatore del progetto Pharaon e del sito pilota italiano e ha ufficialmente sostituito la Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna.
Il DIEF conta circa 280 persone tra cui 61 docenti, 22 collaboratori amministrativi e tecnici, e circa 200 altri ricercatori, tra cui 71 studenti di dottorato, e 64 postdoc. Le attività di ricerca del Dipartimento abbracciano i seguenti settori tradizionali dell’ingegneria industriale: “Bioingegneria”, “Costruzioni e tecnologie meccaniche”, “Progettazione e metodi per l’ingegneria industriale”, “Fisica termica e controllo ambientale”, “Impianti e servizi industriali”, “Macchinari”, “Meccanica applicata”, “Chimica e tecnologia dei materiali” e “Matematica”.
Il DIEF ha competenze ed esperienze nelle aree della Robotica Industriale, Meccatronica, BioRobotica Assistiva, Internet of Robotics Things Marine Robotics, Esoscheletri a scopo riabilitativo e assistenziale, Visione Computazionale, Additive manufacturing, Veicoli Autonomi.
Il Dipartimento sostiene e promuove partnership per attività di ricerca e sviluppo con centri di ricerca e università di fama internazionale e aziende.

DIEF- Industrial Engeenering Department of University of Florence , the new coordinator of Pharaon Project
The University of Florence (UNIFI), established in 1321, is one of the largest organizations for research and higher education in Italy with about 51,000 students, 1,800 teaching and research staff, 1,600 technical and administrative staff and 1,600 PhD students and research fellows. Researchers at the University of Florence operate within 21 different departments and can benefit from approximately 40 research structures, including inter-departmental and inter-university centres, as well as specialized research, knowledge transfer and advanced training centres. Moreover, a significant part of the yearly budget is allocated to scientific research.
Recently, UNIFI has been ranked among top Italian Universities for the distribution of national research funds, and it is one of the most active Italian universities in terms of European projects and related grants. In the 7th Framework Programme, the EU funded about 140 projects for a total of over 40 million Euros. As of December 2019, the University of Florence has over 70 Horizon 2020 ongoing projects and more than 90 other EU projects in the field of education, cooperation and joint initiatives. The University also participates in several research programmes sponsored by international agencies, associations, foundations and other donors.
In Pharaon, the University of Florence is involved through the Department of Industrial Engineering (DIEF). From December 1st, 2020 DIEF department is the coordinator of Pharaon Project such as of the Italian pilot and officially replaced the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna.

The research activities of the Department embrace the following traditional sectors of industrial engineering: “Bioengineering”, “Constructions and Mechanical Technologies”, “Design and Methods for Industrial engineering”, “Thermal Physics and Environmental Control”, “Industrial Plants and Services”, “Machineries”, “Applied Mechanics”, “Chemistry and Materials Technology” and “Mathematics”.
DIEF has competencies and experiences in the areas of Industrial Robotics, Mechatronics, Assistive BioRobotics, Internet of Robotics Things Marine Robotics, Exoskeletons for Rehabilitative and Assistive purposes, Computational Vision, Additive manufacturing, Autonomous Vehicles.
The Department supports and promotes partnerships for research and development activities with internationally renowned research centers and universities, and companies.
